On 18th October 2024, CO2Sense proudly exhibited at UK100, a pivotal event held at County Hall, London, aimed at driving Britain’s clean energy ambitions. UK100 gathered national and local government officials, as well as leaders from the community and energy sectors, to accelerate the rollout of sustainable energy solutions across the country.

The summit featured keynote speakers Tom Hayes MP, National Mission Champion for Energy; Mete Coban, Deputy Mayor of London for Environment and Energy; and Emma Pinchbeck, who has just been announced as the new Chief Executive of the Climate Change Committee.

Addressing the clean energy challenge

A highlight of the event was the launch of UK100’s flagship report, Local Net Zero 2.0: The Moment To Deliver and the unveiling of a Charter of Collaboration designed to strengthen partnerships between local and national governments. CO2Sense Director Hugh Goulbourne signed the charter, showcasing the organisation’s commitment to supporting resilient, community-focused energy development across the UK.

Hugh Goulbourne, CO2Sense Director proudly signed the charter on behalf of CO2Sense. Hugh commented: “By committing to the UK100 Charter, CO2 continues its dedication to helping build a resilient, community-oriented energy landscape across the UK, driven by collaborative investment and smart regulation.”

Key areas of the charter that CO2Sense will prioritise are:

  • How best to allocate long-term funding to ramp up local, municipal and community projects (with a particular focus on how this can be done in a way that attracts a blend of private sector finance)
  • What are the regulatory changes required to maximise benefits of low-carbon, decentralised energy for communities closest to new infrastructure (i.e. locational pricing/a local energy market mechanism)

The Charter is now open for local leaders across the country to sign. It aims to foster stronger partnerships and align efforts in the clean energy transition.

Local leaders are encouraged to visit https://localclimatepledge2024.uk100.org/ to sign the Charter of Collaboration and signal their willingness to play a critical role in the clean energy superpower by 2030 mission — with the right support.
