Empowering Communities through Local Energy

Our collaborative approach makes local energy projects sustainable, delivering direct benefits to communities

All CO2Sense investments ensure that local residents benefit directly from the energy produced.

As a CIC, our trusted approach and ability to bring all parties together ensures that local energy projects are financially sustainable and also provide long-term benefits to the communities they serve. This supports the Local Power Plan’s vision of decentralising energy generation while creating regional economic growth.

All CO2Sense investments ensure that local residents benefit directly from the energy produced. CO2Sense also works with intermediaries such as Ethex to facilitate community ownership models, such as community benefit societies, cooperatives or shared ownership.

Successful examples include a small scale wind (2.5 MW) and biogas (5MW) assets alongside private equity investors and small scale generators. This includes the Pantycleyn wind turbine which CO2Sense still owns and operates in Mid Wales. Pantycelyn has been operational since 2015, delivering clean energy into the grid and generating a valuable income for the tenant farmer. Crucially the wind turbine is also seen as an enormous asset by the local community who have used the community dividend to redevelop their local park and retrofit their community centre with grade A insulation, LED lighting, solar panels and heat pumps to insulate themselves against rising energy costs.
