How CO2Sense is supporting Chirrup.ai
At CO2Sense, our mission is to accelerate the UK’s transition to a low-carbon future. Tackling this challenge comes hand in hand with combating the biodiversity crisis. One of our recent projects with Chirrup.ai shows how we are taking an innovative approach to supporting solutions that provide tangible benefits.
In October 2024, we provided Chirrup.ai, a start-up agricultural technology business with a £50,000 revolving credit facility (FCF). This is helping to cash flow their Innovate UK grant funded project.
Hugh Goulbourne, CO2Sense Director, said: “Supporting Chirrup reflects CO2sense’s mission. This project has the potential to not only transform UK farming practices, but it could also be a solution for farmers and other landowners across the globe”.
Chirrup’s approach to nature monitoring
In collaboration with the UK Agri-Tech Centre, Chirrup.ai is launching an acoustic diagnostic technology to market in Spring 2025 across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Their unique device is an affordable solution for measuring and managing biodiversity by providing farmers and landowners insights into their ecosystems.
By measuring volume and type of bird species, it builds up a detailed picture of the biodiversity of a specific area using the trophic pyramid principle. This detailed data helps UK farmers understand what works best and what doesn’t. In addition, it means that supermarkets, other food retailers and government bodies have a way to ensure that farmers are measuring their impact precisely and not just estimating it.
Why CO2Sense supported Chirrup.ai
While this is not a typical type of investment for CO2Sense, we recognise that the biodiversity crisis is as serious as climate change. We see real opportunities for the UK to lead the world in terms of using data and AI applications to address this crisis. Innovative technology like Chirrup.ai is the type of solution that will enable this.
At a time when UK farmers are really struggling to make ends meet, Chirrup’s technology could potentially provide an affordable and scalable solution to an everyday challenge. Importantly, it could also be a solution for farmers and other landowners across the globe.
