CO2Sense invest in anaerobic digestion plant and helps to develop business case

About this project

CO2Sense invested £750,000 in GWE Biogas, the first anaerobic digestion plant in Yorkshire that generates electricity from food waste.

The investment by CO2Sense meant that the plant could be completed in one phase.

The plant takes in around 50,000 tonnes of food waste, and generates enough clean energy to power 3,200 homes. Over ten years, the plant will save around 260,000 tonnes of CO2 . The plant became operational in December 2010.

CO2Sense’s investments do not have to be repaid until the project is making an income. The money will then be used by CO2Sense to invest in more renewable energy projects.
