CO2Sense invested £200,000 to a hydroelectric plant on the River Wharfe, in West Yorkshire.
The plant has a 329KWh Kaplan hydro power turbine, and will generate 1,400 MWh of electricity each year, which is enough to power 310 homes.
The scheme is located by Greenholme Mills, Burley-in-Wharfedale, and has renovated and utilised a previously derelict overspill channel in the existing Greenholme Mill, constructed in the 19th century.
The plant will generate income from the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) of around £296,000 per year, and will save around 7,700 tonnes of carbon dioxide over the next ten years. The plant also features a fish pass to ensure the biodiversity of the river is not affected by the plant.
The scheme is now operational and has been producing clean electricity for over a year.
CO2Sense’s investments do not have to be repaid until the project is making an income. The money will then be used by CO2Sense to invest in more renewable energy projects.
