CO2Sense invests £200,000 in hydro plant

CO2Sense invested £200,000 to a hydroelectric plant on the River Wharfe, in West Yorkshire.

The plant has a 329kW Kaplan hydro power turbine, and will generate 1,400 MWh of electricity each year, which is enough to power 310 homes.

The scheme is located by Greenholme Mills, Burley-in-Wharfedale, and has renovated and utilised a previously derelict overspill channel in the existing Greenholme Mill, constructed in the 19th century.

The plant will generate income from the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) of around £296,000 per year, and will save around 7,700 tonnes of carbon dioxide over the next ten years. The plant also features a fish pass to ensure the biodiversity of the river is not affected by the plant.

The scheme has been operational and producing clean electricity since 2011.

Returns from CO2Sense investments are reinvested to fund further renewable energy projects in the UK. Flexible finance is available to cover costs associated with project development.
