CO2Sense invest in anaerobic digestion plant

CO2Sense invested £600,000 in Clayton Hall Farm Biogas to support the development of an anaerobic digestion (AD) facility on the farm. CO2Sense also successfully submitted the initial grid connection enquiry on behalf of the farm, and supported the development of the business plan and financial models for plant. We then helped the farm to find companies that would pay the farm to remove their food waste.

The AD plant will enable the farm to generate a new income stream, not only from collecting the gate fees charged for the disposal of food waste, but by generating clean electricity and selling it to the national grid.

The facility will process a total of 10,000 tonnes of food waste and energy crops per year. The biogas produced by this process will generate 3,150MWh of clean electricity each year, enough to power around 650 homes, and save30,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide over the next ten years.
